Pink Hair for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mondays are Magical: Take Care of Those Boobies!

Pink Hair for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As it should be! However, we shouldn’t need a special month each year to remind us that 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. These statistics are scary! Very scary!

The good news is that death rates from breast cancer have been declining since around 1990, in part to better due to screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options. When breast cancer is detected early, at a localized stage, the survival rate is 98%.  Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.

My mother, my great maternal aunt, and my (step) grandmother are all survivors of breast cancer. Currently my aunt is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and we expect her to also be a survivor. Early detection is key! It’s so important to give those boobies some TLC every single month. In case you need a little more bribery, check out the eye candy in this video reminding you to check your boobies to save your boobies!
